Tribute meeting held in memory of Nepali student Yeoman Chand who passed away in the UK

LONDON:- A memorial service was held to pay its final respects to Yeoman Chand, a student who passed away last week at his home in Edgware, London.

The gathering, held at Divinity Funeral Care in Canton on Thursday afternoon, was attended by the late Chand’s family members, friends, former colleagues, and leaders of the Nepali community.

Expressing his condolences, Khamir Jung Gurung, president of the Burnt Oak Nepali Society, said that the death of Yeoman, a student who came to the UK with big dreams for higher studies, is a loss not only to his family but also to the community.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who provided financial support to send the late Yeoman’s body to Nepal as requested by the family.

Murari Thapa, vice-president of the Burnt Oak Nepali Society, informed that donations worth around 20,000 pounds (approximately Rs. 3.7 million) were collected from various organizations and individuals in a short period of time.

Pramod Adhikari, Director of Ample International Education, recalled that he came to the UK as a student in 2010 and said that they were saddened by the death of the late Yeoman.

Yeoman Chand, a resident of Ward No. 3 of Darma Rural Municipality, Salyan, who had come to the UK to study just a year ago, passed away suddenly last Tuesday (November 11).

Chand, 26, who is studying for an MSc in Communications and Information Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, had planned to complete his studies and receive his certificate last week.

His family has stated that his body will be flown to Kathmandu by Qatar Airways on Friday and then taken to his home village in Salyan for the last rites.
