27 Nepalis in Cambodian prison, appeal to victims of fraud to file complaints

-

BANGKOK:-  As per the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand’s call for details, 211 Nepalis in Cambodia have filled out the online form so far. There are 9 women in this.

According to the data received, these Nepalis have arrived in Cambodia between May 2022 and May 2026. The embassy has informed that the documents of those who have provided details and require travel documents have been prepared and sent to Cambodia.

Twenty-seven Nepalis in Cambodia are currently being held in various prisons awaiting trial on various charges. The embassy has warned the concerned parties that lawyers who know the local language may be required during the trial process.

Similarly, information has been received that 25 Nepalis are returning to Nepal from Cambodia recently. To make the journey easier, the embassy has suggested purchasing tickets only with connecting flights. The embassy says that in the absence of a connecting flight, the journey may be difficult due to the need for a transit country visa and the hassle of re-checking luggage.

The embassy has received information that Nepalis who have reached Cambodia have paid between 200,000 and 800,000 rupees to various individuals while on their way there. The embassy has requested the people who have been cheated to register a complaint with the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau in Babarmahal, Kathmandu, upon their return to Nepal.

The embassy has stated that this step is necessary to take legal action against the culprits and to proceed with the process of recovering the amount paid.
