KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said genuine squatters will be identified and their management ensured permanently by providing with land at the earliest.
PM Shah took to his official Facebook account to inform that the government was working to seek a durable solution to the long standing problems of landless squatters and manage their settlement. He added it is necessary to relocate squatters elsewhere for the security of those settling on riverbanks and to improve the Kathmandu Valley’s drainage system as well.
“Each year, people residing along the riverbanks in the Valley are forced to flee for the lives during the flood by leaving their belongings behind. To have access to safe settlement is a right of the citizens,” the PM reminded on social site. PM Shah further made it clear that squatters’ settlements on riverbanks including those at Thapathali area of Kathmandu are being relocated safely without using any force and managed subsequently.
Recalling the party’s election commitments and the matter included in government’s 100 days’ to-do-list about finding a solution to the issues of squatters, he said the government has not forgotten the agenda- urgency of resolving squatters’ concern and preventing encroachment on public land.
