KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress leader Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has proposed to form a joint mechanism with full authority to conduct the party’s 15th general convention by consensus.

Speaking to media persons after the discussion of the working committee elected from the 14th general convention held at Purna Bahadur Khadka’s residence on Saturday, he said that he is of the opinion that a common mechanism should be formed to unite the party and move forward in a consensual manner and that the same mechanism should be given full authority to hold the 15th convention of the party.

He said that the leadership elected from the convention held by such a mechanism would be owned by all parties. He commented that only one group of the party participated in the special general convention and that the decisions made by the working committee elected from the special general convention were unilateral.

The party’s special general convention held last December had elected Gagan Kumar Thapa as the president. The then president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s faction had moved the Supreme Court against this. On Friday, the Supreme Court granted legitimacy to Thapa’s faction.
