KATHMANDU:- A severe cold wave accompanied by thick fog has swept across Madhesh Province and other Terai districts since Friday morning, significantly disrupting daily life. The sudden change in weather is attributed to the influence of western winds, which have brought a sharp dip in temperatures across the region.
The dense fog has severely impacted air travel. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), flight services at Janakpur, Bhairahawa, and Nepalgunj airports have been suspended as visibility dropped below the required safety standards for landing and takeoff. Travelers have been left stranded as airlines wait for weather conditions to improve.
The plummeting temperatures have caused widespread hardship, particularly for children and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to cold-related illnesses. In response to the biting chill, health experts and physicians have urged the public to take necessary precautions, such as wearing warm clothing and staying indoors, to avoid health complications triggered by the cold wave.
