Charity show in London to support children’s hospital campaign in Nepal

LONDON:-  A charity event has been organized in London to support the ambitious campaign to build children’s hospitals in all seven provinces of Nepal led by senior cardiologist Dr. Bhagwan Koirala. Organized by K-Pals UK at the Blue Room in Harrow, the event was enthusiastically attended by Nepalis living in the UK and various organizations.

The program, organized with the aim of providing financial and technical support to the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health (KICH), also featured cultural performances, raffle draws, and auctions. Addressing the program through virtual medium from Kathmandu, Dr. Bhagwan Koirala said that although maternal and infant mortality rates have improved in Nepal over the past decade, they are still not satisfactory compared to developed countries.

He informed that hospitals are being built in all seven provinces to provide not only quality but also affordable and accessible health services to children. He said that a hospital has already been put into operation in Damak, Koshi Province, and a central hospital is under construction in Hepali Heights, Kathmandu.

The chief guest of the event, Acting Ambassador to the UK Bipin Duwadi, praised the contribution of Nepalis living abroad in improving education and health in their homeland. He said that organizations like KIOC have greatly strengthened the government’s efforts and called this campaign exemplary.

Similarly, record-breaking mountaineer Hari Budhamagar spoke about the dreams and abilities of people with disabilities and appealed to everyone to join hands for the future of Nepal’s children.

NRNA ICC Vice President Ram Sharan Simkhada and NRNA UK President Rajendra Pudasaini stressed on the need to utilize the collected funds in a transparent manner and pledged their full support, both personally and institutionally, to this sacred campaign. K-Pals UK Trustee Dr. Durga Sigdel informed that her organization is working on skill development and training of Nepali doctors and nurses in addition to providing financial support.

Dr. Sudarshan Gurung entertained the participants by singing popular songs, while Dr. Pratishtha Tripathi, Kavita Rana Magar, Deepti Koju, Arisha Shakya, and Aisha Moktan performed attractive dances. The program was organized with the active participation of K-Pals UK Trustees Prof. Dr. Satyan Rajbhandari, Dr. Ramesh Koju, Shivaji Shrestha, and Prasuna Kadel.
