Risk of heat wave likely for next three days in Tarai region

KATHMANDU:- With rising temperatures in different parts of the country, there remains a continued risk of heat waves for a few more days.

Sharing that there is a possibility of a heat wave in some districts of Tarai until Thursday, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged all concerned to exercise extreme caution.

The temperature in the Terai area of Lumbini Province and Sudurpaschim Province had reached above 40 degrees Celsius this afternoon. The temperature in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius, while Kathmandu stood at 33 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist at the Department, Binu Maharjan, shared that there is still a possibility of a heat wave in the eastern part till Saturday and for a few more days in the western part. She suggested avoiding unnecessary movement during day time, to wear a light and cotton dress and to drink a sufficient amount of water.

Meanwhile, an early warning to ‘stay alert’ was issued in Kanchanpur, Kailali, Dadeldhura, Doti, Bardiya, Banke, Dang, Kapilvastu and Rupandehi of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Similarly, people of Achham, Surkhet, Dailekh, Salyan, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Parasi, Nawalpur, Chitwan, Makawanpur, Parsa, Bara, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, Sindhuli and Udayapur districts have been requested to remain updated.

Heat waves and high temperatures might cause different health problems like headache, dizziness, falling unconscious and dehydration, according to the Department. Specifically, children, elderly persons and people suffering from chronic diseases are requested to adopt necessary precautions. RSS
