SANKHUWASABHA:- Over 200 animals have gone missing after a landslide buried a sheep pen at Mangsima of Makalu Rural Municipality-5 in Sankhuwasabha on Saturday.
The incident occurred in the morning when a mudslide buried the sheepfold owned by a resident, Dal Bahadur Gurung, according to the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha. It is said the landslide struck the sheep pen suddenly while it was housing a total of 250 animals.
Only 32 sheep were rescued alive. Local sheep herder Jhalak Gurung, 20, was injured in the incident, while another Kamal Gurung, 30, remained unharmed.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police of the district, Kumar Prasad Mainali, said the area lies in a geographically remote zone, posing challenges to undertake rescue and search work.
The site is located around 40 kilometres away from the nearby Num Police Beat, and it takes around 10 hours on foot to reach there from the nearby police post. Until the filing of this report, a security squad has already left for the area for rescue efforts. RSS
