MORANG:- Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has demanded the immediate release of the report prepared by the National Human Rights Commission regarding the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, (September 8 and 9, 2024).

Speaking to media persons at the historic Koirala residence in Biratnagar on Saturday, Thapa also stressed the need to form a judicial commission to bring out the truth about the incident.

Accusing the government of deliberately hiding the report of the Human Rights Commission and creating great pressure on the commission, Thapa said, “What is in the report should be made public immediately. Attempts to hide the truth are fatal to democracy.”

He warned that the government was trying to govern through ordinances and that it would not be acceptable for the executive to try to keep the judiciary and the legislature under its control under any circumstances. He said that the principle of balance of power was being attacked and urged the government to be responsible.

In the internal context of the party, President Thapa called on all leaders to move forward unitedly while managing the disagreements and dissatisfaction seen within the Congress. He said that he was completely open and ready to bring senior and influential leaders, especially those who are currently outside the central committee, into the mainstream.

“It is my responsibility as the president to address the differences within the party. I specially request all my friends to come and work within the central committee,” Thapa said. “Now if you feel that no one likes your face, then that is a different matter. Otherwise, there is enough space for working together within the party and I am ready to create an environment for that.”

Thapa maintained that while forming important committees like party discipline, election and membership management, they should be formed with everyone’s advice and understanding.

He argued that updating membership is the basis for strengthening the party and no one should create obstacles in it. He said that since the right to choose candidates will remain with the members, everyone’s support is needed in strengthening the organization.

Recalling the historical dignity of Koirala’s residence, Thapa said that he felt honored to be here for the first time after becoming the president.

He also expressed his commitment to the Congress to effectively play its role in taking the party forward in accordance with the constitution and holding the government accountable on issues of public concern.
