Nepali Congress calls meeting of opposition parties

-

KATHMANDU:- The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has called a meeting of opposition parties to decide on the government’s recommendation to President Ram Chandra Poudel to issue ordinances related to the Constitutional Council and cooperatives.

Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe has called a meeting of opposition parties at the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar on Wednesday at 12 noon. Parliamentary party leaders of the CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party, Shram Sanskriti Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have been invited to the meeting.

The meeting is expected to discuss the government’s move to bypass parliament, its political implications and counter-strategy.

The government’s announcement of the Constitutional Council and cooperative ordinances was made public only after the ordinance reached the President for certification on Tuesday. Opposition parties have expressed dissatisfaction with this.

Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Angdembe has described the government’s move as undemocratic and an insult to parliament. He has expressed his commitment not to allow the essence of democracy, the constitution and the will of the people to be violated.

Various opposition parties have also been objecting to the ordinance brought by the government.
