Nepali Americans in California explore identity, culture and tradition through ‘Nepal Day Parade’ Bimal Shrestha, president of the Pashupatinath Buddha Temple Los Angeles, who arrived in San Francisco with a Nepali musical instrument, 'Panche Baja' to participate in the Nepal Day Parade, says, "Nepali culture and the Nepali people are spreading all over the world, and we are succeeding in our journey of finding identity in America through our culture."

SAN FRANSSICO:- The ‘Nepal Parade’, which was started by Nepali Americans in the city of San Francisco, California, in search of culture and tradition, has concluded with grandeur. The Nepal Day Parade is organized as a campaign to introduce Nepal through the display of Nepali art, culture, costumes, and traditions.

Kul Prasad Dhakal KP, President of the California Chapter of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), expressed happiness over the grand completion of the ‘Nepal Parade’ and expressed gratitude to the organizations that supported the efforts to make the streets of San Francisco ‘Mini Nepal’.

Chairman Dhakal says that through the parade, we have succeeded in preserving our culture and identity with tableaux such as Panchakanya, Panchebaja, Shankhadhwani, Kumari, Dhime and Lakhe dances.

Tilak Rana, Vice President of the NRNA California Chapter, expressed happiness that the Nepal Day Parade was successful in showcasing Nepal’s diverse ethnicities, religions, and cultures in the United States with its identity. He said, “The Nepal Day Parade has been successful in establishing our identity, unity, and cooperation in American cities.”

The Nepal Day Parade organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) California Chapter saw significant participation from the Nepali community in various cities in the US.

Nepalis from Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Bakersfield, Long Beach and other surrounding states and cities had reached San Francisco to participate in the festivities.

The Nepal Day Parade, which started at San Francisco City Hall and ended at Embarcadero Plaza, featured a variety of cultural performances. Market Street, the city’s main street, was closed to traffic and opened to pedestrians throughout the parade.

Ram Chandra Lamichhane, the president of the Southern California Public Relations Committee, (NPRC), who arrived to participate in the Nepal Day Parade, is proud to be a Nepali American and says, “This festival has been a success in our journey of finding our identity in America through the diverse culture of Nepal, and we should have a presence in Hollywood in the coming days.”

The tableaux, Nepali costumes, and cultural programs presented by various ethnic and local social organizations made the streets of San Francisco ‘Nepalish’. The local American community also observed the Nepali art and culture displayed in the program with interest.

Representatives from various states, led by NRNA America President Satendra Sah, had come to participate in the Nepal Day Parade. The group of Shree Pashupatinath Buddha Temple Los Angeles presented a cultural tableau with ‘Panche Baja’. The attractions of the program were Panchakanya, Panche Baja, Shankhadhwani, Kumari, Dhime and Lakhe dances.

Kul Prasad Dhakal, president of NRNA California, informed that the Nepal Day parade will be attended by the Nepali Consulate General in San Francisco, the mayor of the Bay Area, and city council members.
