BEIJING:- Around 50 Everest climbers from Nepal and China, including climber and federal lawmaker Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, have been honoured in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
The climbers were honoured at the ‘Nepal-China Everest Adventure Festival’ organized by the Nepali Embassy here on Friday evening to mark the 73rd Everest Day, the Nepali Embassy said.
Former Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar and Acting Ambassador of the Nepali Embassy Roshan Khanal presented certificates of appreciation to 29 Chinese and 24 Nepali climbers.
The program was organized with the objective of promoting mountain tourism in Nepal and enhancing cooperation between Nepali and Chinese mountaineering and tourism entrepreneurs.
On the occasion, Nepal’s Acting Ambassador to China, Khanal, highlighted the importance of Mount Everest, the spirit of adventure tourism, and Nepal’s role as a hub for the global mountaineering community. He expressed confidence that such programs would help further strengthen Nepal-China people-to-people relations.
Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, a member of the House of Representatives and Everest climber, pointed out the need to further deepen Nepal-China tourism cooperation. Phur Gelje Sherpa, President of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, said that joint initiatives between the two countries are necessary to promote mountain tourism.
Nepali Embassy Counselor Bivek Rijal gave a presentation introducing Nepal’s tourist destinations. Nepal’s record-breaking climber Lakpa Dandy Sherpa and Chinese climbers Chang Maoling and Lorikashi shared their experiences of climbing Mount Everest. An exhibition of photographs of Nepal’s tourist destinations was held at the event venue.
The program was attended by about 200 people, including representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of international mountain tourism-related organizations, diplomats from various countries, Chinese tourism entrepreneurs, and members of the Nepali community. From Nepal, representatives from the Nepal Mountaineering Association, the Climbing Operators Association, the Everest Climbing Association, the Nepal National Mountaineering Guides Association, as well as more than a dozen companies related to climbing and trekking routes participated.
On the same occasion, a business-to-business networking program was also organized with the aim of expanding cooperation between tourism entrepreneurs of Nepal and China.
