Bird flu infection reported in 82 places in 11 districts of Nepal

KATHMANDU:- Bird flu, a highly contagious viral disease that affects birds, has spread to 82 places in 11 districts of the country. According to Dr. Umesh Dahal, Director General of the Department of Animal Services, the disease has spread to various districts after the infection was first confirmed in Morang on April 2027.

According to the department, bird flu has been seen in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kavre districts. So far, 569,858 birds have been destroyed in the course of infection control. In addition, 989,313 eggs and 195,485 kilograms of feed have also been destroyed, the department said.

The movement of birds was banned in Koshi Province for a month to control the disease. The ban has now been relaxed after the infection was brought under control. The department has stated that animal quarantine offices have been put on high alert to prevent the spread of the disease and patrols have been deployed to destroy suspicious birds that were illegally imported.

According to the department, the infection has been brought under control in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi. However, the public is urged to remain vigilant, as bird flu outbreaks have still been observed in the Kathmandu Valley districts—Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur—as well as in some areas of Kavre.
