WASHINGTON:- Today, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Chair Grace Meng (NY-06) issued the following statement after House Republicans voted against a bipartisan agreement to reopen essential agencies without funding federal immigrant enforcement:
“After weeks of obstruction, Senate Republicans finally relented to our demands to fund TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA without giving a dime to ICE. However, House Republicans rejected this bipartisan agreement, forcing hardworking Americans to go without pay for the seventh week straight and sowing further chaos at our airports.
“Let us be clear: we will not give ICE a blank check while they terrorize our communities. CAPAC has held the line and will continue to oppose any funding for this rogue agency absent serious and meaningful reforms. The only thing standing between ending the nightmare at our airports are House Republicans.”
