KATHMANDU:- Opposition parties have decided not to allow Parliament to function until Prime Minister Balendra Shah apologises for his statement on the Nepal–India border.

A meeting of opposition parties held at Singha Durbar on Sunday concluded that the Prime Minister’s remarks were flawed and should be removed from the record of the House of Representatives.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nepali Congress Whip Niskal Rai said that if the Prime Minister’s statement is true, he must clarify it; otherwise, he should apologise in Parliament.

CPN-UML Deputy Parliamentary Party Leader Padma Aryal said the statement made in the sovereign parliament has brought shame to the country and hurt national self-respect. She added that the Prime Minister should issue an apology in the House.

Chief Whip Yubaraj Dulal of the Nepali Communist Party said the opposition has demanded the removal of the statement.

Chief Whips of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party, Shram Sanskriti Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party attended the meeting.

They said the Prime Minister’s statement was incorrect and must be corrected; they will continue their protest in Parliament.
