CHICAGO:- On Tuesday, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents were conducting an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago when an undocumented immigrant reportedly used his vehicle to hit a Border Patrol vehicle.
According to a DHS statement about the incident, Border Patrol agents pursued the suspects and successfully stopped them using authorized precision immobilization techniques (PIT) maneuvers. Agents apprehended and arrested two illegal immigrants from Venezuela who were attacking law enforcement. As agents attempted to secure the scene, a violent crowd surrounded law enforcement and began throwing objects at them, necessitating the use of crowd control measures and leading to several arrests.
One of the attackers was a US citizen teenager who threw an egg at the head of a CBP officer. He was also seen collecting rocks, admitted without questioning that he had thrown the object at officers, and was arrested for assault. The CBP also arrested another man accused of throwing chemical weapons at agents.
DHS claims that, despite the facts of the case, mainstream media has falsely claimed that CBP “kidnapped” the teenager. Such lies are responsible for the increase in violence against law enforcement, including a 1000% increase in attacks against ICE officers.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the attack, Luis Gerardo Pirela-Ramirez, was arrested on charges of assaulting a federal agent. An illegal immigrant from Venezuela was previously ordered deported from the United States by an immigration judge in August 2024. He was previously arrested by the Border Patrol in 2024, when he was also arrested as an accessory to an attack on a federal agent.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said the teenager confessed to the attack when he was arrested by federal agents. Another 19-year-old boy was also arrested on charges of throwing a chemical weapon at agents in Tuesday’s incident.
