LONDON:- The NGO ‘Responsibility’ has interacted with Nepalese in the UK to advance economic governance and innovation at the local level by supporting women- and youth-led enterprises.
At a program organized at the Nepali Embassy in London on Monday, the chairman of ‘Dayitva’, Dr. Pukar Malla, gave information about his objective. Dr. Malla, who returned to Nepal after studying and working in the United States for 17 years, is now interacting with Nepali expatriates with ‘Mission Asha’.
Stating that federalism has made diversity and decentralization effective, he presented the fact that his organization has supported 115 enterprises at the grassroots level and that about 200,000 people have directly benefited from this.
Dr. Malla said that governance reforms are essential to take Nepal on the path of economic prosperity. He expressed his belief that hope can be restored among the youth through rural employment creation and strengthening economic governance. He also emphasized that each individual should contribute at their own level, without blaming the government alone.
Responding to questions from participants at the event, he said that despite having the opportunity to build a career abroad, he returned to Nepal with the determination to do something at home.
Dr. Malla has gained experience at the World Bank, Harvard, Intel, and Silicon Valley startups. He holds a BSc, PhD, and MPA from Swarthmore College, Cornell University, and Harvard University, respectively.
At the conclusion of the program, Nepali Ambassador Chandra Kumar Ghimire highly praised Dr. Malla’s efforts and said that he expects even greater contributions from the youth.
Deputy Chief of Mission Bipin Duwadi delivered the welcome address at the event, while Youth Entrepreneur Development Nepal sponsored light refreshments.
