BEIJING:- Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal is in Beijing for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to advance bilateral cooperation and strengthen development ties between the two nations.
The high-level visit, which follows Khanal’s recent trip to New Delhi, reflects the new Rastriya Swatantra Party-led government’s active “development diplomacy” aimed at building strong economic partnerships with its neighbors.
Khanal is scheduled to hold formal bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart on Monday evening to review ties and map out fresh avenues for economic collaboration. During his engagements with senior Chinese officials, including representatives from the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Khanal will discuss the implementation of past agreements and align future projects with Nepal’s current national priorities.
The discussions will heavily focus on cross-border infrastructure and development assistance under the Belt and Road Initiative framework, with the government looking to maximize tangible benefits in key sectors like connectivity and trade infrastructure.
Prior to his departure, Khanal emphasized that his trip is centered on building deep trust, outlining the positive economic priorities of Nepal’s new government, and ensuring steady progress on mutually beneficial development projects.
Additionally, Khanal will formally reiterate Nepal’s long-standing and unwavering commitment to the One-China policy, reassuring Beijing of stable bilateral relations while advancing an independent, non-aligned foreign policy focused strictly on economic growth and regional partnership.
