PARSA:- The Parsa District Court has ordered the release of Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Rajesh Man Singh on bail of Rs 415,000.
The bench of Justice Gayatri Prasad Regmi ordered the release of Mayor Singh on bail after he was taken into custody by police from Thori, Parsa, on Tuesday and produced before the court.
According to Parsa District Court Judge Prabhakar Kumar Mallik, a bail of Rs. 400,000 has been sought from Mayor Singh in the document-related offence case and Rs. 15,000 in the charge of obtaining citizenship by submitting false information.
Senior advocate Rameshwor Sedhai, advocate Kamal Mohan Pokharel and Pramod Sah argued on behalf of Mayor Singh, while advocate Chandrika Patel and other legal practitioners argued on behalf of Jaherwala. Similarly, District Attorney Manoj Kumar Gupta argued on behalf of the Government of Nepal.
The case, filed by Birgunj local Liaqat Ali, is an anti-government Nepali case. Mayor Singh has been accused of obtaining citizenship by submitting false information and forging documents. Along with Mayor Singh, his younger wife Rita Bhattarai and the then local registrar of Birgunj-3, Bhikhari Raya, have also been made defendants in the case.
According to the police, an arrest warrant was issued against Mayor Singh on 20th Jestha as per the court order in the case of forgery of documents. After that, another arrest warrant was issued on 21st Jestha for investigation in the case related to citizenship documents. Mayor Singh was released on bail after the court order while the investigation and legal process of the case is ongoing, according to the District Police Office, Parsa.
