KATHMANDU:- The Nepal Indigenous Film Federation is organizing the ‘6th Nepal Indigenous Film Festival-2083’ from 17th Jestha.
The Nepal Indigenous Film Federation is organizing the 6th festival on 17th, 18th and 19th Jestha in collaboration with the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Information and Communications, Film Development Board and National Foundation for the Upliftment of Indigenous Peoples.
Sagar Kerung, director of the festival organizing committee, informed that feature films, short films, documentaries and AI-generated documentaries from the Limbu, Newari, Gurung, Tamang, Magar, Bhujel, Majhi and Rajwanshi communities will be screened at the festival to be held at the Film Development Board in Kathmandu.
“Tribal films are not just art or entertainment. They should be viewed in connection with civilization, existence, and cultural sovereignty,” he said. “The Sixth Nepal Indigenous Film Festival-2083 speaks the language of the indigenous people, speaks history, speaks the land, speaks the memory of the ancestors, and speaks the living spirit of the entire indigenous community. The festival establishes Nepal as a strong center of world indigenous films.”
The festival will screen feature films Rit directed by Dinesh Lingden, Swayangu directed by Amritman Maharjan, Ngolsyo Ramrani directed by Janak Gurung, Hang Tamang directed by Nima Lama Tamang, and Dilsara directed by Ashok Ale Magar. The festival will screen short films Tangsing directed by Sagar Kerung, Dukhala Gyam directed by Hut Bahadur Tamang, Niko Pahayan directed by Bipana Tamang Bhujel, and Lahureni directed by Vishal Roka Magar, according to the organizers.
On the documentary side, Agre directed by Anil Budhamgar, Ladi Pooja directed by Homkumari Majhi and AI generated documentary Ancient Dynasties of Biratnagar directed by Arvind Biswas will be screened. It is believed that the festival will create a new dialogue, collaboration and alternative cinematic dialogue between filmmakers, researchers, and cultural activists.
The organizers have informed about the 6th Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Film Festival-2083 today at a press conference held at Silauta Cottage in Anamagar. The press conference was attended by Uttam KC, President of the Nepal Film Artists Association, Amrit Bahadur Sunuwar, Vice President of the Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Federation, Sameer Balami, President of the Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Journalists Association, and indigenous artists.
