KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that he wants to work with the leaders who were left out of the party’s special general convention.

At a program on the theme ‘Role of Nepali Congress in Contemporary Politics’ organized here today on the occasion of the foundation day of the ‘Democratic Thought Society’, President Thapa said that the leaders who were left out of the special general convention will be included in the central committee and other committees.

“A large number of leaders elected from the party’s 14th General Convention are outside. I want to bring those leaders elected from the 14th General Convention who are not in my committee into the current Central Committee and make them senior leaders with dignity. I want to keep them in whatever position I can and work together,” said President Thapa.

President Thapa said that the date for the party’s 15th general convention has been set and that an election committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Prem Bahadur Khadka, and he is ready to include others in it. He reminded that there is a membership inquiry committee led by General Secretary Pradeep Poudel and said that he is ready to include more members in it.

Informing that the disciplinary committee is headed by Taraman Gurung, he said that some members can be included in it. Stating that he is clear about providing opportunities to leaders within the party, President Thapa said, “There is no question of getting opportunities within the party on the basis of who came from the special general convention and who did not come.” President Thapa also urged active members across the country to update their party membership.

Party General Secretary Pradeep Poudel complained that the Prime Minister is not fully accountable to the Parliament in the parliamentary system. He said that it is a matter of concern that the current government, which was formed with huge public support, is being surrounded by questions in a short time.

General Secretary Poudel suggested that sensitive bodies such as revenue investigation, money laundering and special investigation should not be made Prime Minister-centric.

At the program chaired by the society’s president Kulchandra Wagle, constitutional expert Bipin Adhikari, diplomatic figure Shambhuram Singhada, former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, presidents of the Democratic Lawyers Association Sitaram KC and Sher Bahadur KC, president of the Nepal Press Union Shiva Lamsal, senior journalist Gokarna Aryal, Dr. Basudev Bhandari, and others expressed their views on the role that the Nepali Congress should play in the country’s contemporary politics.
