UML Chair Oli undergoing health check-up at Teaching Hospital

-

KATHMANDU:- Former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (UML), KP Sharma Oli, has been taken to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for a health check-up following his arrest on Saturday morning.

According to hospital spokesperson Dr Gopal Sedhai, Oli is currently undergoing medical examination in the emergency department. A team of specialist doctors is assessing his health condition.

Police arrested Oli from a rented residence in Suryabinayak Municipality–7, Gundu, and initially took him to the Metropolitan Police Range in Bhadrakali. After a brief detention there, he was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.

The arrest comes after a recent cabinet decision to implement the report prepared by an investigation commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki.

The report concerns the suppression of the Gen Z protests that took place on September 8 and 9. Based on the commission’s findings, authorities also detained former Home Minister Lekhak.

The report had earlier been submitted to the interim government led by Sushila Karki.

Meanwhile, CPN (UML) has called a secretariat meeting at its central office in Chyasal to discuss Oli’s arrest. Following the meeting, discussions with central committee members and district leaders are also planned.

Party Secretary Mahesh Basnet said that the meetings will decide the nature and form of protest programs in response to the arrest.
