UML calls for peaceful election environment

-

KATHMANDU:- The CPN (UML) has urged the government to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a secure and fearless atmosphere.

During a press conference held at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur today, Meen Bahadur Shahi, the Head of the party’s publicity department, emphasized the need for peace and security as the nation faces rising insecurity and anxiety with the elections approaching.

He called on the government to facilitate the upcoming House of Representatives elections, scheduled for March 5, in a manner that guarantees safety. The head of the Publicity Department expressed concern over the incidents of flag burning featuring the election symbol ‘Sun’ in various locations, as well as the increasing hostility directed towards the party leadership.

The party highlighted that since the announcement of the elections, there has been a troubling situation with thousands of prisoners and stolen weapons from security agencies still at large, which poses a risk of escalating criminal activities.

Furthermore, the UML claimed that there have been instances of inappropriate conduct and flag burning targeting its leadership, accompanied by slogans against the party in various areas, which they view as a deliberate attempt to incite electoral conflict.(RSS)
