By Purushottam Dhakal, LOS ANGELES:- The Trump administration is set to begin revoking US citizenship at a rate of 200 per month from the first month of 2026 for individuals accused of illegally obtaining citizenship.

The Trump administration has announced plans to establish a monthly quota of up to 200 as it seeks to accelerate efforts to revoke the citizenship of some naturalized American citizens.

According to a document recently sent to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Trump administration aims to revoke the citizenship of 100 to 200 people per month by 2026.The document also states that USCIS must work with the Department of Justice to meet this quota.

USCIS spokesperson said that the administration’s priority is to identify and revoke the citizenship of individuals who lied or provided false information during the citizenship process.

The Trump administration’s desire to revoke citizenship is nothing new, but setting quotas for it is. Historically, revocations of citizenship have been very rare.

In the past, Nazis who came to the United States under false identities to hide their membership were stripped of their citizenship after it was revealed that they were war criminals.Last June, the Department of Justice issued a similar directive, aiming to remove those who became citizens illegally.

The Trump administration is not the first to target people accused of illegally obtaining citizenship. New digital tools were also used to detect citizenship fraud under President Barack Obama.

The Trump administration’s efforts have created a sense of fear and panic among naturalized citizens and immigrants eligible for citizenship.According to public figures, about 170 citizenship revocation cases were sent to court during Trump’s first term.

Meeting the current quota of 100 to 200 per month appears to be a very challenging task for the administration.

Legal experts say this is unlikely to be possible without breaking rules and procedures, as the Trump administration appears willing to ignore legal precedents.Immigration law experts and activists have said these efforts will be challenged in court.
