JANAKPURDHAM:- The Provincial Assembly meeting today passed the impeachment motion filed by 64 members of the Provincial Assembly from seven parties against Madhesh Province Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal.

The motion was passed by a two-thirds majority as 76 of the 78 members of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly present voted in favor of the impeachment motion. The proposal was passed because 72 provincial assembly members were more than the two-thirds required. Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Ishar, who was presiding over the meeting, made the announcement at the meeting of the Provincial Assembly, where no votes were cast against the proposal.

Deputy Speaker Vabita Raut announced that, as of today, Speaker of Madhesh Province Ram Chandra Mandal has been relieved of his post as Speaker in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal.

The proposal to remove Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal from office was made by Nepali Congress Chief Whip Kumar Kant Jha.

On October 27, the Secretary of the Provincial Assembly, Homnath Pahadi, registered the proposal in the Provincial Assembly on the specific order of Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Ishar, alleging that Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly had not behaved in accordance with his position.

The Deputy Speaker called the meeting for this afternoon after 32 provincial assembly members from various parties in Madhesh Province submitted a letter to the Deputy Speaker yesterday requesting him to convene a provincial assembly meeting.

Similarly, Deputy Speaker Babita Raut Ishar, who was presiding over the meeting, read out the letter of the Supreme Court’s interim order against the decision to remove five members of the Provincial Assembly from office.
