COSTA BLANCA, SPAIN:- Former Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, has said that comprehensive changes in policy and leadership are necessary to make Nepal prosperous.
Addressing a meeting and interaction jointly organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Costa Blanca and the Nepal Society Association Costa Blanca on Friday, Ghising said that the right political leadership is necessary for the overall transformation of Nepal.
“A comprehensive change in policy and leadership is also needed to bring about rapid economic change in the country and to bring back Nepalis who have emigrated to Nepal,” he said.
Now, almost every Nepali home across the country has access to electricity. But electricity alone is not enough, he said, adding that the Bright Nepal campaign was launched to ensure that there is light in every part of the country.
“When I came to the authority, our total electricity generation was 800 megawatts, now it is about to reach 4,000 megawatts. Five times more is being generated. Thousands of other megawatt projects are under construction. We are currently collecting Rs 25 billion in annual revenue. We have made the authority financially strong. This would not have been possible without the support of the general public,” Ghising said.
“Nepalese diaspora is a great asset for Nepal. Five million Nepalis have gained experience and expertise by living abroad. All this expertise should be added to the development and transformation of Nepal,” he said.
The program’s chairman, Keshar Bahadur Thapa, president of Nepal Society Association, Costa Blanca, said that he was very happy to hear about a personality like Kulman Ghising, who is serving the nation.
He said that despite living in exile, they have always been involved in the happiness and sorrow of their homeland. Recalling that they collected money and sent it to Nepal during the great earthquake in 2015, Chairman Thapa wished for the success of the Bright Nepal Campaign.
NRNA Costa Blanca Chapter President Bipin Kumar BC and others delivered speeches at the event. Ghising was also honored with a letter of appreciation on the occasion.
