Government monitoring of the safety of Nepalis migrant workers in Gulf and Middle East Details of 57,100 Nepalis migrant workers at risk collected

KATHMANDU:- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that as of Monday evening, 57,100 Nepalis migrant workers  have registered their details in the online registration system operated by the Department of Consular Services to collect details of Nepalis migrant workers living in Gulf and Middle East countries. 

The ministry has stated that further steps will be taken as needed based on the details received at the Consular Department.

The ministry has stated that Nepalis who wish to return to Nepal can travel from some places as limited flights are being operated. Also, arrangements have been made for Nepalis who wish to return to Nepal via Saudi Arabia to send a photocopy of their passport, photocopy of visa and details including travel plan to the Nepali mission in their country and request for visa facilitation.

Keeping in view the recent developments in the West Asia region, the Government of Nepal has stated that it is keeping a special vigil on the security, welfare and welfare of Nepali migrant workers residing there. The Ministry organized a virtual discussion with representatives of Nepali missions, Non-Resident Nepali Associations and various organizations of the Nepali migrant workers in West Asia. Addressing the discussion, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai emphasized the need for all parties to cooperate more actively to ensure the security of Nepali citizens, the ministry said.

According to the information provided by the ministry, Nepali embassies and consulates general in West Asia are open regularly. For essential services including passports, service recipients can schedule an appointment through the phone number or email provided by the respective missions.

Similarly, Nepalis migrant workers residing there have been requested to stay updated on the security precautions and information issued by the local government and Nepali missions and not to record or share photos, videos, or audio materials of any activities taking place there in violation of the law.
