Economic Census: some enterprises refuse to provide details

KATHMANDU:- Some industrial and commercial establishments are report to have refused to provide information for the ‘Economic Census, 2082’. 

They refused to provide data in the economic census conducted by the National Statistics Office, saying that they did not receive information and some are not sure about the confidentiality of the data collected.

Meanwhile, stating that no details that reveal individual or institutional identity will be made public, Chief Statistics Officer Dr Kamal Prasad Pokharel has urged all concerned not to hide details as refusing to provide data is tantamount to a criminal offense. The collected details will be kept confidential as per the Statistics Act, 2079 BS. 

Deputy Chief Statistical Officer and Spokesperson Dhundiraj Lamichhane, said that the details of the commercial establishments that refused to provide data were collected with the special support of the local level. 

The deadline for collecting on-site data for the census was June 21. However, the District Economic Census Office will remain in operation at the district level until end of June. 

According to the Office, 3,907 enumerators and 526 supervisors were mobilized for the national economic census. Details of 1.3 million industries, professional organizations and establishments have been received so far. 

Details were received through the paper-based questionnaire and through e-census. According to the office, during the first economic census in 2075, details of 923,356 industrial establishments were collected across the country. (RSS)
