Consumption of petroleum products decreases by 10 percent

-

KATHMANDU:- Consumption of petroleum products has been gradually decreasing in the country as consumption of electricity increases.

According to the Economic Survey 2082/83, the consumption of petrol and diesel has decreased by 10 percent and 9.9 percent, respectively as of mid-Falgun, (March) of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.

As electricity consumption increases, the import of petroleum products is also decreasing. Furthermore, as the use of electric stoves is increasing in urban areas, the consumption of cooking gas is gradually decreasing.

Similarly, according to the Economic Survey, access to electricity has reached almost 99.1 percent of the population across the country. The challenge of providing quality and reliable electricity service in places where electricity access has been achieved remains.

As of last Falgun, (March), the country’s total installed power capacity has reached 4,105 megawatts. Of this, the installed hydropower capacity is 3,798 megawatts. In the current fiscal year, 2,918 gigawatt-hours of electricity have been exported to India.

Meanwhile, although access to basic drinking water has reached 97 percent of the population, access to safe drinking water is limited to only 29 percent.
