CHICAGO, IL:- Congressional candidate Bushra Amiwala delivered remarks at the remembrance of Aaron Bushnell outside the Chicago Israeli Consulate on Wednesday.

Her words honored the memory of a United States Active Military member who self-immolated in 2024 to protest his nation’s complicity in violence against civilians in Palestine.

“Aaron saw two million people facing famine. He saw an entire city bombed out of existence. He saw twenty thousand children die. And he saw that his military was supporting it,” Amiwala, an elected member of the Skokie School Board, told the gathering. “He knew that opening fire on civilians, bombing population centers and blocking aid to starving people does not make the world safer. And he gave his life to make sure we knew it too. “

Faith leaders from Jewish, Muslim and Christian backgrounds led prayers for peace at the remembrance. Rep. Joey Ruzevich, a congressional candidate in Illinois’ 4th district, also participated.
