IOWA:- DHS confirmed that ICE arrested Ian Andre Roberts, an undocumented immigrant from Guyana, with a loaded handgun and a fixed-blade hunting knife.
At the time of his arrest, Roberts was working as the superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, despite being an undocumented immigrant with a final order of removal.
According to a statement issued by DHS, during a targeted enforcement operation on September 26, 2025, officers fled in Roberts’ vehicle.
Officers later found his vehicle abandoned near a wooded area. The State Patrol assisted in the investigation and he was taken into custody by ICE.
Roberts has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm since February 5, 2020. Roberts entered the United States on a student visa in 1999 and was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May 2024.
The ATF has been given a report on how Roberts obtained the handgun. It is a violation of federal law for someone without legal status to possess a firearm and ammunition.
“The suspect was arrested while carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle provided by Des Moines Public Schools after fleeing federal law enforcement,” said Sam Olson, director of the ICE St. Paul Field Office.
