By Purushottam Dhakal, LOS ANGELES:- The US is set to deport 37 Nepalese on Tuesday.  According to immigration sources, the deportees include 35 men and 2 women. The 37 deportees will arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal tomorrow, Wednesday.
They were sent to Nepal via Omni Air’s charter flight, flight number ‘N 828 AX’. They are expected to arrive in Nepal at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, Nepali time.
They were arrested in the US on charges of violating immigration laws. They were provided with travel documents by the Nepali Embassy in Washington, DC.
Those deported include Nepali citizens from Dang, West Rukum, East Rukum, Salyan, Myagdi, Parbat, Banke, Rolpa, Baglung, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Jajarkot, Dolakha, Kaski, Kailali, and Kanchanpur.
Similarly, Nepali citizens from Gorkha, Jumla, Jhapa, Doti, Dolpa, Dhankuta, Parsa, Makawanpur, Mustang, Morang, Sindhuli and Sunsari have also been deported.
According to the Immigration Department, the largest number of those deported are from Dang, West Rukum, and East Rukum.
Since Donald Trump was elected to a second term and took office on January 20, 2025, 215 Nepalis have been deported by the end of August. Only 16 Nepalis were deported in August, including 1 woman and 15 men.
From January 20 to June 30, 2025, a total of 215 Nepalis have been deported since the start of US President Donald Trump’s second term, of which 197 are men and 18 are women.
TPS holders are also on the deportation list
This number is expected to increase in the coming days as Nepalese’ TPS has ended, as nearly 1,500 Nepalese who have received deportation orders from the US are protected by TPS.
Since their TPS expired on August 20, US immigration could deport them directly if they were arrested.
Similarly, ICE recently made public data showing that nearly 1,500 Nepalese who were not previously included in TPS are still living in the United States after receiving deportation orders.
With the start of Trump’s second term, deportation policies have been tightened. This policy, which targets immigrants living without legal documentation, has put a large number of Nepalis at risk of deportation.
USCIS has stated that Nepalis’ TPS and the work permits obtained on the basis of it have been invalidated after August 20. Nearly 7,000 Nepalese are protected under TPS in the United States.
Nepal has been accepting its citizens who are being deported with ease. The Nepali Embassy in Washington, D.C. has been playing a key role in this process. The embassy has been readily providing travel documents for deported Nepalis after US Immigration requested them.
Concerns have grown in the Nepali community as the number of Nepalese to be deported increases significantly in 2025. The end of TPS and strict immigration policies have compounded this problem.
