CHICAGO:-  A man driving a black Jeep opened fire on federal agents conducting immigration enforcement in Chicago on Saturday, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

No injuries were reported from the shooting, and the suspect is still at large, according to DHS.

DHS also said that “an unknown number of protesters also threw paint cans and bricks at Border Patrol vehicles” during the incident.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) confirmed that it responded to a call of shots fired and assisted in securing the area.

Protesters demonstrating against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, arrests, and detention conditions have occasionally clashed with law enforcement.

Last month, federal agents shot a woman in Chicago after DHS said her vehicles were boxed in by other cars.

Saturday’s attack in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood underscored growing tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement in urban communities.

In addition to the shooting, DHS reported that “an unknown number of protesters” threw paint cans and bricks at agents’ vehicles before fleeing.  Meanwhile, the Sidi responded to secure the area and assist in dispersing the crowds that had gathered around the scene.

Videos circulating on social media show federal agents arresting at least one person and suddenly opening fire as the crowd becomes agitated.

DHS stressed that the attack reflects a “growing and dangerous trend” of violence and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement.

Federal actions in Chicago have regularly caused controversy, especially in neighborhoods like Little Village, home to a Mexican-American community.
