KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged the need for continuous dialogue and exchange of ideas between the government, political parties, and the Gen-Z groups to collectively address the challenges facing the nation.
At a tripartite meeting—government, political parties and Gen Z representatives– held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday, Prime Minister Karki urged all sides to hold ongoing discussions and work together in a spirit of cooperation.
“Let’s exchange all ideas. The country is ours, and we will build it. If we don’t build it, no one will,” she said at the beginning of the dialogue. “It won’t happen with a one-time conversation; it has to be repeated. We have started it and let’s continue it,” she added, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
Writing on platform X, Prime Minister Karki stated that the dialogue held on Wednesday between the government, political parties, and Gen-Z representatives had fostered new confidence and positive energy. She remarked that the challenges facing the country were shared by all, and that solutions could be achieved only through collective efforts and sustained dialogue.
The Prime Minister added that the government had succeeded in ending the absence of dialogue and creating an atmosphere of cooperation and trust. According to her, the new generation, political parties, and the government share a common goal, to ensure free, fair, secure, and timely elections.
She further highlighted the shared commitment to curb corruption, promote good governance, and enhance transparency, adding that the nation would move forward on this foundation by institutionalising stability, accountability, and democratic practices.
The meeting, the first of its kind between the political parties and Gen Z groups, was convened to create an atmosphere of trust ahead of the general elections scheduled for 5 March 2026. It brought together representatives from the government, major political parties, and leaders of the Gen-Z movement.
Communication and Information Technology Minister Jagdish Kharel, told the press after the meeting that the discussion held in a friendly environment was highly fruitful.
“Today’s meeting between the Gen-Z representatives, political parties and the government was highly productive. Everyone has shown commitment to moving forward peacefully and positively. The discussions were centred on good governance, ending corruption and ensuring a fair and secure election,” said Minister Kharel.
According to Kharel, the political parties said they were ready to participate in the upcoming election, though they called for strong security guarantees and logistical preparedness.
“No political party said they would not contest the election. The Nepali Congress has clearly pledged its full support to the government, and the UML has stated that everyone should take part in a democratic process. Other parties also expressed confidence in the government’s readiness,” he said.
The Gen-Z representatives urged mainstream political parties to reflect on their weaknesses and to prioritise good governance and anti-corruption measures alongside the electoral process.
Gen-Z have not prohibited parties, they want to address the issues of good governance and corruption, Minister Kharel said, adding that the four-hour talks has now created an election environment in the country.
“It is encouraging to see young voices calling for accountability. Their demand for transparency and better governance aligns with what the government is striving to achieve” he added.
When asked about the security issues related to stolen weapons and escaped prisoners, Minister Kharel assured that these matters would be resolved before the election.
“The stolen weapons are being recovered, and escaped inmates are returning. There were similar challenges during the first Constituent Assembly election, yet it was conducted successfully. We will ensure security this time as well,” said Minister Kharel.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Education, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Mahabir Pun, and Minister Kharel from the government side.
From the side of the political parties, Nepali Congress was represented by general secretary Gagan Thapa and spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, CPN (UML) by Mahesh Bartaula and Kshitij Thebe, and CPN (Maoist Centre) by Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Barshaman Pun and Madhav Sapkota.
