PM urges political parties for serious reforms “This commitment must continue even after the upcoming elections. For that to happen, young citizens must remain aware and active,”

KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that political parties must undertake serious reforms within themselves.

In a video message delivered on Thursday night on the occasion of the completion of a month of the Gen-Z uprising of September 8 and 9, the Prime Minister said that the government was committed to the change that the young generation seeks, and it was moving forward on a new path.

“This commitment must continue even after the upcoming elections. For that to happen, young citizens must remain aware and active,” she said.

She further said that the government has introduced special programmes to support the families of those affected during the Gen-Z movement and to ensure proper treatment for the injured ones.

Stating that it has been one month since Nepal’s Generation Z youths began their political movement, she said, “During this period, many young people got martyrdom, and hundreds more have been injured. I want to pay heartfelt tribute to them all. This painful chapter will remain forever etched in our national memory.”

She said that we all should embrace the spirit of the youth-led political revolution.

“Additional mechanisms are being set up to safeguard their welfare. We reaffirm our commitment to political and administrative reforms that address corruption, unemployment, and discrimination,” she said

Behind the sacrifice of our youths lies a deep desire for political and economic reform — a longing for justice, the rule of law, and an end to corruption and malpractices in our country, she said. “We must recognise and accept the revolution our youths have ignited.”

The Prime Minister said that there is frustration among the young people on the one hand and an unwavering love for the nation on the other.

Stating that she sincerely respects the emotions of young people, Prime Minister Karki said that successive governments had failed to listen to the voices of our youth and address their demands.

“We must all humbly acknowledge our shortcomings and mistakes,” she added.

She said, “To meaningfully engage Generation Z in building the future of Nepal, a new framework will be established. Today, I urge everyone to remain calm and help end the cycle of violence. To turn this tragedy into the foundation of a new Nepal, we must uphold mutual goodwill and national unity.”

She said she was hopeful that both the current and future governments would take concrete steps to fulfill the dreams of the young people and build a prosperous Nepal. “Let me reiterate — we will do everything in our power to ensure that the sacrifices of our martyrs do not go in vain. I believe that in this time of crisis, we will move forward together, as one nation.”
