KATHMANDU:- The government has decided to provide immediate relief and restore essential services disrupted by recent floods and landslides.

At a press conference held to announce the decisions of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Executive Chief Dinesh Prasad Bhatta said that road networks, communication, and electricity services will be restored immediately through coordination among all three tiers of government.

The meeting decided to provide Rs 50,000 in relief to those whose houses were destroyed. Of this amount, Rs 25,000 will be distributed immediately, and the remaining Rs 25,000 will be provided after reconstruction in line with the government’s standards.

The government also decided to provide international-level training and rescue equipment to Nepal’s rescue teams to strengthen disaster preparedness. Similarly, the Ministry of Health, along with provincial and local governments, will be mobilized to prevent possible disease outbreaks in affected areas.

According to the Authority, 52 people have died and four remain missing due to the recent floods and landslides, while 47 injured individuals are receiving free treatment at various hospitals.

Bhatta said that reconstruction work will move forward once the full details of the damages caused by floods, landslides, and inundation are received.
