RSP revises statute, expands inclusive leadership structure

CHITWAN:- The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has amended its party statute with a focus on widening internal representation and strengthening inclusive leadership provisions.

According to Ganesh Parajuli, a member of the statute amendment committee, the revised provisions ensure the election of three vice-presidents, including at least one woman. Similarly, the party will now have two general secretaries and five joint general secretaries, with a mandatory requirement that at least one of the joint general secretaries be a woman. The restructuring aims to enhance women’s participation in leadership positions.

Under the new arrangement, the party will also appoint one treasurer, two joint treasurers, one spokesperson, and three joint spokespersons.

The central committee will comprise 151 members, including 99 elected members and a president elected through internal polls. In addition, 51 members will be nominated by the party president through an inclusive selection process. Vice-presidents from the seven provinces will serve as ex-officio members.

Previously, the statute allowed the party president to appoint only a treasurer and a spokesperson. The latest amendments expand this authority to include the nomination of one vice-president, one general secretary, and two joint general secretaries.

Parajuli said the changes reflect the “spirit of inclusion” and ensure broader participation of women at different levels of the party structure.

Under the revised statute, five central committee members will be elected from each province among the 99 elected seats, with at least two women in each province.

The statute also introduces mandatory representation based on provincial demographics, including Indigenous, Dalit, Tharu, and Madheshi Dalit communities from specified provinces.

The ongoing three-day general convention of the party, which began on Sunday in Chitwan, is holding its closed-door session today.
