LALITPUR:- The chariot procession of Rato Machhindranath, revered as the deity of rain and prosperity, has concluded on Saturday with the traditional display of the sacred bhoto (jewel studded vest).
The month-long festival began with the chariot being pulled on Baisakh Shukla Pratipada and came to an end after the chariot reached Jawalakhel from Iti (Lagankhel) in Lalitpur on Wednesday. The chariot was kept at Jawalakhel for four days before the bhoto was displayed on Saturday, marking the final ritual of the festival.
The bhoto was displayed in the presence of high-ranking dignitaries, including President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Chief Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, among others.
President Paudel and other dignitaries reached Jawalakhel to observe the traditional Bhoto Jatra ceremony. Following the display, the idol of Karunamaya will be placed on a ceremonial palanquin and taken back to Bungmati.
The government had announced a public holiday in the Kathmandu Valley on Saturday on the occasion of the historic Bhoto Jatra.
