89 passengers rescued from Roshi River flood along BP Highway

-

BANEPA:- Security forces rescued 89 passengers after they were stranded in a sudden flood in the Roshi River section of the BP Highway last night.

Five microbuses were caught in the flooded area between Laskot and Ghumaune of Roshi Rural Municipality–7 after heavy rainfall caused the river to swell rapidly, turning the road into an isolated stretch. All passengers were safely evacuated overnight.

According to Chief of Kavre Police Office Komal Shah, a joint team of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force carried out the rescue operation in close coordination. Chief District Officer Gopal Adhikari was also present on the ground to monitor the response.

The vehicles were travelling towards Kathmandu from various Tarai and hill districts when they were trapped in the flooded section.

Authorities said the rescue was completed successfully due to the high alertness and coordinated effort of the security agencies.

The BP Highway along the Roshi River has remained vulnerable for over two years following damage caused by a major flood. Although a temporary diversion is in place, a permanent solution for the 18-km damaged stretch is still pending.

Following the incident, vehicles heading east were stopped at Dhulikhel and Kavrebhanjyang, while those heading to Kathmandu were halted at Mangaltar and Sindhuli, according to the District Traffic Office, Banepa.

Police and traffic authorities had earlier urged motorists to avoid the route due to the risk of flash floods during adverse weather conditions. Some drivers who ignored the warnings were taken under control by police.
