WASHINGTON:-  The ‘Walk for Peace’, which began with Buddhist monks from the Hung Dao Vipassana Center in Fort Worth, Texas, will conclude on Thursday, February 12, after 110 days of continuous walking.

This peace march, which began in the US state of Texas, walked through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia before arriving in Washington, D.C. on todays February 10.

In the current situation where the world is once again being pushed towards war, this campaign has organized a walk for world peace to draw human consciousness towards peace, humility, and compassion. During the walk , monks are reaching every state and spreading the message of peace through meditation, discourses, and dialogue.

The 2,300-mile (3,680 km) peace walk from Texas to Maryland is a tradition for Buddhist monks. The team, which is about to complete a 120-day continuous walk, includes 19 Buddhist monks.  As a special attraction of this journey, a dog named ‘Alouka’, rescued from India and Nepal, is also traveling with the monks, who is seen as a symbol of peace, compassion, and coexistence.

Buddhist monks in different countries around the world undertake this type of walking journey in various places. But this time, this journey has attracted the attention of the entire American population, including the world. According to the monks participating in the trek, “Peace begins in the heart of every person and this journey is for world peace.”

The main objective of the walk is to spread the message of spiritual peace, social harmony, compassion and non-violence, and to remind people of the need for world peace and brotherhood, said Dr. Neeraj Bajracharya, the coordinator of the walk, who is of Nepali origin.

This peace march has received unprecedented support from thousands of American citizens across the United States. During the walk, the monks have been honored by receiving hospitality, food, housing assistance, participation in events, and by issuing special peace proclamations by the governors, senators, and members of Congress in each state.

Today, Wednesday, the 109th day of the World Peace Walk, a series of events including addresses and meditations by Buddhist monks participating in the Peace Walk will be held in Washington, DC.

The walk for world peace in the US is coordinated, managed, and guided by Nepalese Buddhist and peace activist Dr. Niraj Bajracharya. It is believed that this campaign for world peace led by a Nepali Buddhist monk in America will also introduce Nepal to the world as a place of peace and spirituality.
