President Paudel calls for fair and impartial election

KATHMANDU:- President Ramchandra Paudel has urged the government and security chiefs to instill public confidence that the upcoming election will be conducted in a free, fair, and fearless atmosphere.

During a meeting held today at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas, with the Prime Minister of the Interim Government and ministers, the President called on them to act decisively and effectively to ensure the successful conduct of the House of Representatives election that has been announced for March 5, 2026.

According to the President’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokharel, the President also instructed the chiefs of all four security agencies to perform their duties with confidence and commitment toward the election.

The Head of State also called for the return of those prisoners who had escaped from various prisons during the Gen Z demonstrations on September 8–9 but have not returned yet, as well as the recovery of weapons looted during the protests.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sushila Karki assured that the government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the election is held in a free, fair, and fearless environment. She urged the security agencies to intensify their preparations and pledged to provide all necessary resources to support their efforts.

The security chiefs assured the President that the security forces are fully capable of maintaining peace and order and ensuring the successful conduct of the election. Citing their experience in handling past elections, even under more challenging circumstances, they reaffirmed their readiness for the same.

All ministers in the current Council of Ministers, except Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal, were present at the meeting.

Also present were Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel, Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung, Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Raju Aryal, and Chief of the National Investigation Department, Tekendra Karki. (RSS)
