KATHMANDU:- Fifty-one Nepali citizens who had reached Cambodia under various temptations have been rescued. They were repatriated with the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok and the support of the Cambodian government.
According to the embassy, the Nepalis were involved in illegally operated online scamming centers, casinos and other illegal activities. Some of the Nepalis were found to be staying without visas or overstaying their visas.
They flew from Cambodia on Chaitra 20 and landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on April 4.
The embassy has also stated that initiatives are being taken to repatriate other Nepali citizens who are stranded or in difficult situations. In addition, Nepalis facing such problems have been requested to contact them immediately. For this, the embassy has made public the contact numbers of NRNA representatives Shivaraj Parajuli, Lal Singh Khadka and Ramji Kumar Chhetri.
According to the embassy, there have been complaints that passports of those employed in scamming centers have been confiscated or lost by the company. In such cases, the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok has been rescuing them by issuing free one-way travel permits.
Meanwhile, the number of Nepalis going to Cambodia has increased sharply in recent times, according to statistics. In 2021, 101 Nepalis went to Cambodia, while in 2022, 1,977, in 2023, 2,940, in 2024, 6,404, and in 2025, 9,676 people went.
The Nepali Embassy has once again urged people to go for foreign employment only with a work permit and not to go to countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and others on a tourist visa under the lure of quick and high earnings.
